About OpenClaw

What is OpenClaw?

OpenClaw is an open-source personal AI assistant created by Peter Steinberger. It runs on your own hardware — Mac, Windows, Linux, or cloud server — and connects to the messaging platforms you already use: WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, Discord, Signal, iMessage, and more. Unlike cloud-only AI tools, OpenClaw executes real tasks on your behalf: managing emails, controlling browsers, scheduling, automating workflows, and connecting to thousands of services through custom skills. Your data never leaves your infrastructure.

How is OpenClaw different from ChatGPT or other AI assistants?

ChatGPT is a cloud-based conversational AI that suggests actions. OpenClaw is a self-hosted autonomous agent that executes actions on your computer or server. It has system-level access, can control your browser, send messages, manage files, schedule tasks, and run automations proactively — even when you’re not actively chatting with it. It runs 24/7, maintains persistent memory across conversations, and connects to your actual business tools rather than operating in a sandbox.

Is OpenClaw free?

OpenClaw itself is free and open source. However, it requires API keys for the AI models it uses (such as Claude, GPT-4, or DeepSeek), which have their own usage costs. Running OpenClaw also requires infrastructure — either your own hardware or a cloud server. ClawBuildr handles the infrastructure setup, configuration, and optimization so you don’t have to figure out any of that yourself.

About ClawBuildr’s Service

What exactly does ClawBuildr do?

We provide bespoke OpenClaw installations for businesses. That means we don’t just install the software — we consult on your workflows and business processes, design a custom agent topology tailored to your specific needs, deploy everything on infrastructure you own and control, harden the security configuration, wire in your existing tools and integrations, and stay for a 30-day optimization sprint to make sure everything runs smoothly in production.

Why should I hire ClawBuildr instead of installing OpenClaw myself?

You absolutely can install OpenClaw yourself — it’s open source and well-documented. But misconfiguration is the number one security risk with self-hosted AI systems. Exposed ports, weak permissions, unsafe proxy setups, missing encryption, and improper credential management can leave your system vulnerable. Our engineering team has built production multi-agent orchestration systems from scratch. We don’t follow installation tutorials — we understand the underlying infrastructure and configure it for production-grade reliability and security.

Who is ClawBuildr built for?

We primarily work with online educators, info-product operators, and small-to-medium businesses that want AI agents handling their operational workflows — customer support, content scheduling, email management, lead routing, data processing, and more. If you’re spending significant time or money on manual processes that could be automated, and you care about owning your infrastructure rather than renting it, ClawBuildr is for you.

How long does a typical installation take?

Standard installations are live within one week. Complex deployments with multiple service integrations, custom agent topologies, or specific compliance requirements may take longer. We give you an exact timeline during the initial consultation.

What if I already have OpenClaw installed?

We work with existing installations too. We’ll audit your current setup for security vulnerabilities, misconfigurations, and performance issues, then harden and optimize everything. We can also expand your integrations, improve your agent workflows, and add capabilities you haven’t set up yet. Book a consultation and we’ll scope what needs to be done.

What if I tried to install OpenClaw and it failed?

This is more common than you’d think. We’ve seen every way OpenClaw can break — broken dependencies, misconfigured ports, permission issues, failed gateway setups, and architectural problems. We diagnose what went wrong, fix it or do a clean reinstall with proper configuration, and make sure it actually works this time. Book a consultation and tell us what happened.

Technical Questions

What cloud providers do you support?

We deploy on virtually any cloud provider: AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, DigitalOcean, Hetzner, OVHcloud, Vultr, Linode, Railway, and more. We also support on-premises hardware and Mac Mini setups with remote access. You choose where your infrastructure lives — we make it work.

What tools and integrations can OpenClaw connect to?

OpenClaw supports thousands of integrations through its skills system and API connections. Common ones include: Gmail, Google Calendar, Slack, Discord, WhatsApp, Telegram, Notion, HubSpot, Salesforce, Stripe, Google Drive, Zoom, and virtually any tool with an API. We handle the OAuth setup, webhook configuration, and data flow for all your integrations as part of the installation.

What are the minimum system requirements?

At minimum, OpenClaw needs 1 vCPU and 1GB RAM, but we recommend 2GB RAM or more for production use with multiple channels and automations. Node.js 22 or higher is required. The recommended operating system is Ubuntu LTS for cloud deployments. For Mac Mini setups, any Apple Silicon Mac works well. We handle all the technical requirements during our infrastructure setup.

Can multiple people on my team use the same OpenClaw instance?

Yes. OpenClaw supports multiple channels and can be configured with different agents for different team members. Each team member can interact with their own agent through their preferred messaging platform, while sharing the same underlying infrastructure. We design the multi-user topology as part of the architecture step.

How does OpenClaw handle memory and context?

OpenClaw maintains persistent memory across conversations. It remembers what you’ve discussed, learns your preferences over time, and maintains context across sessions. The memory system is stored locally on your infrastructure, not in any cloud service. We configure the memory system for your specific use case during installation.

Security & Privacy

Is my data safe with OpenClaw?

It can be — but not out of the box. OpenClaw runs entirely on your infrastructure, which is a strong foundation for data privacy. However, the default configuration has significant security gaps that have been flagged by Microsoft, Kaspersky, CrowdStrike, and Cisco. Misconfigured installations are actively being targeted. When properly hardened — with authentication enforced, credentials encrypted, containers isolated, and permissions scoped — OpenClaw is a secure platform for business operations. That hardening is a core part of every ClawBuildr installation.

Do you retain access to my system after installation?

No. We do not install remote access tools, monitoring agents, or backdoors. After the installation and the 30-day optimization sprint are complete, the system is entirely yours. We recommend rotating any credentials shared during setup — and we guide you through that process.

What security hardening do you perform?

Every installation includes: proper file permissions, encryption at rest and in transit, services bound to localhost, authentication tokens configured, container isolation where applicable, firewall rules, secure proxy configuration, credential management, and a full security verification before we consider the installation complete. We follow production security standards, not just the default open-source configuration.

Process & Pricing

How do I get started?

Book a free consultation using the button above. We’ll discuss your business, your current setup, and what you need. There’s no commitment — you’ll get a clear understanding of what an installation would involve, and we’ll send you a proposal afterward.

What does the consultation involve?

It’s a conversation, not a sales pitch. We want to understand your business workflows, the tools you currently use, what’s eating your time, and what you’d automate first. We use this to assess what kind of OpenClaw setup would work for you and give you a realistic timeline and scope. The consultation is free.

Do you offer ongoing support after installation?

Every installation includes a 30-day optimization sprint where we refine workflows, fix edge cases, and stay available on a dedicated channel. After that, the system runs independently — it’s yours. We also offer optional ongoing maintenance packages for businesses that want continued optimization, updates, and support.

Can I see examples of your work?

We’re happy to walk through our approach and discuss how we’ve handled different types of deployments during the consultation. As we grow, we’ll be publishing detailed case studies on our blog.

Do you work with clients internationally?

Yes. All our installations are done remotely — we connect to your cloud infrastructure or hardware from anywhere. We work with clients across Europe, North America, and globally. Time zones are not a problem.

OpenClaw Capabilities

What AI models does OpenClaw support?

OpenClaw is model-agnostic. It works with Claude (Anthropic), GPT-4 (OpenAI), Gemini (Google), DeepSeek, Groq, and local models through Ollama. We configure model failover so your agents automatically switch to backup models if the primary one is unavailable. We help you choose the right model configuration for your use case and budget during installation.

What are OpenClaw skills?

Skills are modular plugins that give your OpenClaw agents specific capabilities. There are 50+ built-in skills and 3,000+ community skills available through ClawHub. Skills can do things like control your browser, manage files, send messages, process emails, generate content, interact with APIs, and much more. We install and configure the skills relevant to your business as part of the deployment.

Can OpenClaw run proactively without me prompting it?

Yes — this is one of OpenClaw’s key strengths. It can be configured with cron jobs, scheduled tasks, and event-triggered automations that run in the background 24/7. For example, it can review your inbox every 30 minutes, deliver a daily briefing each morning, monitor channels for important messages, or trigger workflows based on specific events. We set up these proactive automations as part of the installation.

Can I interact with OpenClaw through WhatsApp or other messaging apps?

Yes. OpenClaw connects to WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, Discord, Signal, iMessage, Google Chat, and its own WebChat interface. You talk to your AI assistant through the platforms you already use — no separate app required. We configure your preferred channels during installation.
